As we age, we accumulate knowledge, wisdom, and further skills—and the wrinkles and lines to prove it, as many like to proudly say. But these fine lines can often end up leaving us with a tired, aged look.
Our facial tissues naturally lose fat as we age, leading to the increased appearance of smile lines, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles. Facial skin also starts to stretch as we grow older, contributing to the loss of facial volume and making those lines and wrinkles even more visible.
Injectables are a great non-surgical way to improve the appearance of your face, smooth wrinkles, and restore a youthful look. These treatments offer a simple way to roll the clock back on the aging process and boost your confidence, all without the need to go under the knife. Dr. Straka’s office now offers a variety of injectables to revitalize the way you look and feel.
What Injectables Can Do
Facial injectables can be used to visually “slow” the aging process down by replacing some of the lost fat from facial tissues. There’s a large variety of injectables available to suit several different needs. They can help plump up lips, soften creases and wrinkles, decrease the appearance of scars, or even reconstruct certain facial deformities. Facial injectables can be especially effective for those showing early signs of aging or as part of a more extensive facial rejuvenation procedure.
How Injectables Work
Facial injectables can be comprised of natural substances already found in your body, such as hyaluronic acid, or chemical materials, like botulinum toxin—more commonly known as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Injectables are safe and non-invasive, with little to no side effects. Most injectables require repeat visits, but the revitalizing effect can last several months or even up to a full year. Softer, thinner injectable formulas are typically used for softer tissues, such as lips, while thicker injectables can be used to reconstruct drooping cheeks or fill facial hollows. Dr. Straka’s office can help inform you on which injectables are best for your needs.
What to Expect From the Procedure
Deciding to go under the knife can often be daunting—but injectables are almost the opposite. They are typically a low-risk treatment with minimal pain and a rapid recovery time. Some injectables can take as little as 10 minutes to complete, and most patients are back to resuming their normal activities within a day or two—or even right after walking out of the doctor’s office! With most injectables, the effects are immediately visible, but it’s crucial to remember that injectables are not a permanent aging fix and most will require repeated visits. Everyone is different, and speaking with a doctor can help you decide which injectable will work best for you.

Which Injectable Treatment Is Right for Me?
Injectables offer an easy, non-surgical way to visually reverse the aging process and smooth out lines, wrinkles, and scars. There are various injectables available, all suited for different needs and areas of the face. It can often be intimidating to learn and choose from the many injectable treatments available. Dr. Straka’s office is on hand to help you learn more about the injectable treatments we offer and which one would work best for you.
The Consultation Process
Before your injectable treatment, you’ll first consult with a skilled practitioner who specializes in injectables. You will go over your medical history, including any medications you take or any past treatments with injectables, while also going over your general health. Your practitioner will also examine the anatomy of your face to better identify which areas should be targeted. You’ll discuss your goals for the treatment and what the best injectable options are.
Dr. Straka’s office currently offers four types of injectable treatments. Here are some more details on each product and how it works to refresh your appearance:
- BOTOX® Cosmetic: This is one of the most common injectables available and is safely and effectively used by millions of people across the world. It is made from purified botulinum toxin A, which relaxes facial muscles to smooth out lines and prevent future wrinkles from developing. BOTOX® Cosmetic is especially useful for the upper face, including forehead lines, crow’s feet, and creases between the eyebrows. It’s injected into the targeted muscles during treatment that takes about 10 minutes, and results last up to four months.
- Dysport®: Also made from botulinum toxin A, Dysport® can also be used to target the creases and lines in the upper face—especially those deep forehead creases and lines between the eyebrows that are typically caused by repetitive muscle movements used to make facial expressions. Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic have very similar effects, but Dysport® is preferred to treat deeper, more severe creases. With Dysport®, your doctor will inject the treatment into five points around and between the brows, preventing those muscles from further movement. The session takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, with results also lasting up to four months.
- Restylane®: This injectable filler product is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in your body that helps promote healthy skin. Restylane® is best suited to help smooth creases and folds in the lower face and to boost lip volume. It also helps fill pitted acne scars, facial scars, and other depressions in the face. Restylane® treatments have some of the most long-lasting effects of injectable fillers, with results that can last up to 18 months.
- Restylane® Silk: This filler is much the same as Restylane®, but Restylane® Silk is primarily suited to plump the lips and smooth out frown lines or other creases around the mouth area. This injectable treatment provides natural-looking results that can last up to six months.
